Come and read the latest on the Regeneration

The Seymour Regeneration project is a once in a lifetime opportunity to give Seymour children a brand new school that paves the way for generations of students to come. This $30 million project herald the fundamental change in the way students experience education and enhance community connection in Seymour as never before.

“This is about creating spaces for our students that can be shared by everyone in the community,” S.T.H.S Principal Tim McCartin said. Seymour P-12 will bring together Seymour Special School, Seymour Primary School, Seymour East Primary School and Seymour Technical High School to provide a unique and individualised organisation which caters for all families in the community.

“this community precinct not only includes the $3 million performing arts centre, the new hydrotherapy pool and the newly funded $3 million junior sporting hall, but also the retained stadium which will be enhanced by a brand new industrial catering kitchen that can be used by all groups in our community,” Mr McCartin said.

For the past five years these four schools have worked together on a vision to create an integrated and inclusive school that offers real and exciting opportunities for all students.

“What’s ahead of us is a brand new culture that will provide teaching all the way from prep to Year 12 where students will learn in classrooms that are flexible, adaptable and ITC rich,” He said.

“Academic achievement is a cornerstone of our school and with brand new state of the art facilities and an enriched curriculum across all levels; we are now entering a new and exciting phase in education for our town.”

With an emphasis on personalised learning, Seymour P-12 will have specialised programs for junior school students, as well as modern trade training courses for year 11 and 12 students such as VET auto, engineering and building and construction. “We’ve had a long process of consultation and we will continue to do this.”

This developing vision has been shared within the community during a consultation process – There have been consultations with the community via the regeneration bus which was located in the car park of the Safeway store for the duration of education Week. Over 120 People visited the bus during this week.

More than 50 people attended a community meeting held on the evening of Monday May 25th to hear a briefing by the architect and have questions responded to by the panel of principals.

Principals are committed, together with our school councils, to ensuring a strong future for our local community by providing a strong, high quality education system in our area.

Principals agree that the way to do this for these four schools to work and plan together. High quality education into the future requires us to make decisions now that will have an impact for the next 20 years.

The master plan for the project has distinct advantages in combining educational facilities that can be made available for use by the community.

The existing stadium will be retained in the plan and will be significantly upgraded with the addition of a canteen, server lobby, dining room, food technology facility (VET standard kitchen), preparation area, store room and exterior learning court. This will make this facility an asset for the school and the wider community.

These upgrades to this facility are in addition to the existing stadium floor space making this an area that will be an invaluable resource to the schools as well as the community for use out of school hours.

In addition to the extensions to the existing stadium, the schools have received funding for a new $3m multi Purpose hall from the Federal Government’s Economic Stimulus Package. This building, of 1050 square metres, will be self contained with canteen, toilets and change rooms, foyer and store room meaning this facility will be able to be utilized at the same time as the Stadium.

This new facility will be constructed adjacent to the existing Stadium and having this, combined with the upgrades stadium, will provide two invaluable facilities.

Immediately behind the new $3million multi-purpose hall, the proposal is to construct a hydro therapy pool, funded by the Federal Government’s Economic Package. This pool will be an invaluable asset to the students of the Seymour Special School and members of the community requiring hydro therapy to assist in recovery from injury and incapacitation.

These four buildings locations make this a genuine community hub.
